[FREE EBOOK] TAWHEED FIRST BY SYAIKH AL-ALBANI

By : ABU MUAWYA BYRUTY

Sheikh Albani was born in Tirana, the capitol of Albania, in 1914 a.d. . His father - Nooh - graduated from the school of jurisprudence in Turkey and was one of the renowned scholars in his hometown. When the Albanian King Zogu took power, he imposed secularism on the country and brought about drastic social changes, which shocked the Albanian conservative Muslim society .

As a result, many Muslim families took flight to neighboring countries for fear of religious persecution . The father of the Sheikh migrated with his family to Syria and settled there .

The father, a scholar himself, was not happy with the school system in Syria and decided to keep his son home to educate him himself . The father drew up a curriculum for his son which included the rules of Qur'anic recitation, Arabic grammar and Fiqh - or religious knowledge - in accordance with the Hanafi school of law to which the father subscribed .

The young sheikh took great interest in the science of hadith, or Prophetic traditions . He received teachings on the science of hadith from the renowned scholar at that time, Sheikh Sa'eed al-Bukhari . In the meantime, Sheikh Nassir earned his living as a watchmaker, a trade, which he learned from his father . This trade gave him ample time to concentrate on his researches in the Prophetic traditions . He dedicated only two days a week for his trade , just enough to earn meager income to support his family . He struggled his way through, and enjoyed a fine reputation in the academic circles .

The fame of Sheikh Albani went everywhere . His eminence, Sheikh Muhammad bin Ibrahim , the Mufti of Saudia Arabia at that time, selected Sheikh Nassir to teach the science of hadith in the Islamic University in Madinah . He taught in it for three years, and introduced for the first time in the history of the islamic universities in the Muslim world, the science of Isnad . ( It is the science by which the hadith or the Prophetic tradition is traced, by the mention, uninterruptedly, in ascending order, of the persons by whom the tradition is transmitted, up to the Prophet (صلّÙ‰ الله عليه وسلّÙ…) ) .

Thereafter, he returned to Syria to dedicate his time for the science of hadith .

After a series of coup d'etat, the regime in Syria turned secular and made it harder for the sheikh to continue his weekly teaching sessions, which he used to hold through the country . Add to the predicament, the jealousy of the Sheikh's contemporaries and those who were blinded by (madthhab) fanaticism, the Sufis, the Batinis of the Shiites and the Alawites gave the Sheikh no choice but to flee to Lebanon, and from there to United Arab Emirates . Finally the Sheikh settled in Amman-Jordan, where he lived the rest of his life .
